The International Cricket Council (ICC) Board on Wednesday decided to take up the wait and watch policy in relation to the fate of the T20 World Cup 2020 given the rapidly evolving situation surrounding the global pandemic.

The ICC, in a statement, said that it will continue to explore a number of contingency plans related to the future of T20 World Cup 2020 and Women’s World Cup 2021 until next month while planning to execute the events in the scheduled window is ongoing.

The contingency plans process will evaluate the health and safety of everyone and any decision taken will be in the best interests of the sport, members and fans.&nbsp;

ICC Chief Executive Manu Sawhney said: “The situation surrounding the global pandemic is evolving rapidly and we want to give ourselves the best possible opportunity to make the right decision for the whole sport. The health and well-being of everyone involved is our priority and other considerations fall out from that.

“We will only get one chance to make this decision and it needs to be the right one and as such we will continue to consult with our Members, broadcasters, partners, governments and players and to ensure that we make a well-informed decision.”&nbsp;

The much-talked-about tax issue between ICC and BCCI was also discussed in the meeting and the global body agreed to extend the deadline given to the Indian board to provide a tax solution to December 2020. Tax exemptions are needed for ICC events and the BCCI has failed to provide so for the 2021 T20 World Cup, scheduled to be hosted by India. The Indian board even failed to get tax exemption for the T20 World Cup in 2016.

In the last ICC Board meeting, the global body said that there will be an independent investigation into the confidentiality of Board matters. On Wednesday, the ICC updated that the enquiry will be supported administratively by a sub-group of the Board comprising Independent Director Indra Nooyi and Chair of the F&amp;CA Ehsan Mani. All Members of the Board and ICC Management are party to the enquiry.
