<p>Lota Sumaddaer, a theatre and media studies lecturer at Tejgaon College in Dhaka, alleged that a “man in uniform” harassed her after spotting bindi on her forehead while she was going to the campus on Saturday morning.</p>

<p>She said the incident took place near Shezan Point shopping mall around 8. 30am.</p>

<p>"A policeman in uniform was sitting there on a parked motorbike. When I was passing by, he started harassing me, seeing a teep (bindi) on my forehead and hurling abuse at me. As I protested, he started the bike and tried to run me over. I tried to move away but got injured severely by falling,” The Daily Star newspaper quoted said Lata as saying.</p>

<p>The woman then filed a complaint with the police and provided the registration number of the motorcycle. Lota said that she could not remember the police officer’s name.</p>

<p>Even though the identity of the accused is yet to be verified, a senior police officer confirmed that he was indeed one of the cops, the Dhaka-based newspaper reported.</p>

<p>The incident caused outrage among civil society activists who staged a protest in the Bangladesh capital demanding immediate arrest of the alleged cop.</p>

<p>Noted actor and ruling Awami League parliamentarian Subarna Mustafa demanded&nbsp;strict action against the policeman for harassing the woman.</p>

<p>The incident also sparked a major outcry on social media with many women sharing pictures with bindi on their foreheads as a form of protest, The Daily Star reported.</p>

<p>Meanwhile, multiple police teams have been formed to locate the accused man, Biplob Kumar Sarkar, deputy commissioner (Tejgaon division) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police, told The Daily Star.</p>

<p>Acting on a tip-off, Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) recovered fake Indian currency notes (FICN) valued at Rs 73.5 million from a house in Dhaka on Saturday.</p>

<p>The police arrested one lady identified as Fatema Akhtar Opi from the Khilkhet area, and after prolonged examination, they were led to a house in the Dakshinkhan area where they recovered the FICN concealed in a secret chamber of the house. The police also arrested another person identified as Abu Taleb from the Sarulia area of Demra.</p>

<p>According to sources in the Dhaka Metropolitan Police, these notes were reportedly manufactured in Pakistan and arrived at Chattogram port, Bangladesh in a marble container from Sri Lanka.</p>

<p>The arrested accused, Abu Taleb, told the police that he smuggled the fake notes with the help of two Pakistani nationals, Sultan and Shafi, from Pakistan through Sri Lanka.</p>

<p>The erring officials include a traffic sergeant, four sub-inspectors, three assistant sub-inspectors, a 'nayek', and 17 constables -- all members of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), the Dhaka Tribune reported.</p>

<p>The DMP is conducting surprise dope tests on law enforcement officials as part of a wider crackdown on drug peddling. Over 100 policemen have been tested so far, the report added.</p>

<p>Most of the erring officials were found using yaba pills (amphetamine) and marijuana.</p>

<p>DMP Commissioner Md Shafiqul Islam told the newspaper that the termination proceedings will end soon. A departmental case has been filed against them and they will be dismissed after the legal process is duly followed.</p>

<p>"Policemen who are involved with drugs or helping drug traders will be arrested and prosecuted. At (police) unit meetings, I have said tell me if anyone of is addicted to drugs so we can arrange for their treatment," Islam said.</p>

<p>The sackings come at the backdrop of increased allegations of police involvement in drug mafia and of some using themselves.</p>

<p>"We first identified a list of suspected drug abusers, scrutinised the list, and finally tested them. We have conducted dope test on over 100 police officials,? the DMP chief told the newspaper.</p>

<p>He said the sackings should send out the clear message that drug trade will not be tolerated.<br />
More drug tests in the police force are expected in the coming weeks.</p>

<p>A senior police official informed that 13 others managed to evade the detention.</p>

<p>Superintendent of Police Harun-ar-Rashid said that the detainees informed the police that they had entered the country illegally and were planning to leave Bangladesh to move to another country from here.</p>
