Iran’s financial system is under growing strain as Ayandeh Bank, one of the country’s largest private banks, has been declared bankrupt amid tightening global sanctions, chronic inflation, and a collapsing rial.

Founded in 2012 with over 270 branches nationwide, Ayandeh Bank reportedly suffered $5.2 billion in losses and $2.9 billion in debts before its assets were absorbed by state-owned Melli Bank.
