According to reports, the vessel lost steering control and collided with the sides of a lock. A lock is a device used for raising and lowering boats between stretches of water and are constructed to enable the passage of boats through sections with varying elevations.&nbsp;

Eleven of the injured individuals were transported to nearby hospitals. However, the severity of their injuries are yet to be determined, as per a police spokesperson, reported Reuters.&nbsp;

Moreover, six others people sustained minor injuries.&nbsp;

Notably, the vessel encountered difficulties while it was navigating through narrow locks around 9:45 pm on Friday (Mar 29). Later, there was a temporary loss of power to its electronic systems. Because of the situation, the ship was rendered unsteerable.

Fortunately, the vessel sustained only minor damages and was able to proceed to its next port.

In an exclusive interview with WION, Austria's Labour Minister Martin Kocher said his country sees India as an attractive investment destination. He also spoke about the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) talks&nbsp;and the possibility of it being signed soon.

Here are the excerpts from the interview:

WION: What were the conversations [you had]&nbsp;with your counterparts?

Kocher: Of course, we discussed the challenges that we are facing worldwide at the moment as a fragmentation...that we are seeing between the large blocks. There is a geopolitical challenge. And these were the heart of our discussions and I think it's important to have a bold political answer and dialogues like that help...to bring people together and think about solutions.

WION: One of the focus has been mobility pacts India has been emphasising on. What kind of conversations are there when it comes to Indian-Austria? 

Kocher: Indeed, it's the case that mobility plays a large role. It's an ageing society in Austria, it's clear that we need skilled migration. We have a system in place that is close to the Canadian system and a point system that allows people from around the world to enter the Austrian market based on experience and based on education. And, of course, there are already quite a lot of Indians that are active in the Austrian market, but we want to make sure that people know that there is this possibility.

WION: Let's talk about economics, an area where you can shed more light. How do you see the rise of India and Asia in terms of the global economic order?

Kocher: I think this is a chance that we have to see and I welcome the negotiations that are going on between the European Union - Austria is a member of the European Union-&nbsp; and India on a free trade agreement. I think when we look at the volume of trades, the momentum is good.

It increased over time over the last couple of years. But there's untapped potential that a trade agreement could actually unlock. And this is one of the issues that [we] have been discussing. Austria is a very strongly export-oriented nation. It will be important to increase the trade volume but we have already a record trade volume between India and Austria and we want to make sure that...the good momentum continues.

WION: How optimistic are you that the FTA will be signed very soon?

Kocher: In Europe, the European Commission is negotiating the treaties with countries when it comes to free trade. But many countries, especially smaller countries in Europe, actually welcome the developments. There is momentum that they should see. A painting by Austrian artist Gustav Klimt which was thought to be lost for nearly a century has been found and is now heading for an auction in Vienna. The portrait, one of Klimt’s last works, had disappeared from public view after a 1925 exhibition.

Klimt’s Portrait of Fräulein Lieser was created in 1917 and according to the im Kinsky auction house, for many decades, the painting which it has described as a “sensation” was privately owned by an anonymous Austrian citizen.&nbsp;

Prior to 1925, the Portrait of Fräulein Lieser belonged to a Jewish family in Austria, but its fate is unclear as the family of the current owners have had the painting since the 1960s.

“A painting of such rarity, artistic significance and value has not been available on the art market in Central Europe for decades,” said im Kinsky in a statement.&nbsp;

The recently rediscovered painting is expected to fetch more than $54 million, said the Austria-based auction house.&nbsp;

The portrait depicts a young member of the Lieser family which belonged to the circle of wealthy, upper-class Viennese society. The family also included Adolf and Justus Lieser, leading industrialists in the Austro-Hungarian Empire.

However, the identity of the younger member of the Lieser family depicted in the portrait has been unclear.&nbsp;

The oeuvre catalogues of Klimt’s paintings suggest that Adolf commissioned Klimt to paint a portrait of his 18-year-old daughter Margarethe Constance. However, there is some evidence that suggests he was commissioned by Lilly Lieser to immortalise one of her two daughters in paintings.&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;

<h2>Auction in April</h2>

In a statement, im Kinsky said that the portrait will be put on auction on April 24, 2024, on behalf of the current owners along with the legal successors of Adolf and Henriette Lieser.&nbsp;

Gustav Klimt portrait found after nearly 100 years could fetch $54 million at auction

Politicians from Germany's far-right Alternative für Deutschland (AfD) on Wednesday (Jan 10) met with an Austrian extremist leader in order to discuss a mass deportation plan, the officials from the party confirmed.

However, they reportedly denied any plans to adopt a proposal for mass deportations of immigrants discussed at the talks.

Martin Sellner, the leader of the white pride Identitarian Movement in Austria, proposed a strategy to "reverse the inward migration of foreigners" and instead eliminate migrants and asylum seekers, investigative media outlet Correctiv reported citing undercover research.

He also, as per the reports, suggested that when the AfD came into power, the biggest "problem" for the party would be the expulsion of "non-assimilated citizens".&nbsp;

The meeting held in the vicinity of Potsdam, was attended by politicians, lawyers, and doctors, as per Correctiv.

Confirming his presence at the talks, Sellner told the news agency AFP, "It was the end of November and I presented my book and the Identitarian concept of remigration there".&nbsp;

The Austrian added that his "concept targeted migrants who are not assimilated, or who culturally, economically and criminally weigh on society".

The Identitarian movement adheres to the “great replacement” conspiracy theory, which posits that non-white immigrants are engaged in a conspiracy to replace Europe’s “native” white population, which the nationalist extremists seek to eliminate.

The AfD said Roland Hartwig, co-leader Alice Weidel's close aide, had put forward a social media project at the meeting.

However, the far-right said that Hartwig did not "bring Mr Sellner's ideas on migration policies" into the party, and added that it "would not change its immigration policies based on the individual ideas of a speaker at the meeting".

German, Austrian extremists meet to discuss expulsion of 'non-assimilated' immigrants

Austria is making a diplomatic move to have Raiffeisen Bank International, the largest Western bank in Russia, removed from a Ukrainian blacklist in exchange for endorsing new European Union sanctions against Russia, Reuters reported.<o:p></o:p>

The manoeuvre highlights Austria's economic connections with Russia, the bank's determination to sustain its lucrative business in the country, and a diminishing Western effort to isolate Moscow.<o:p></o:p>

Austria and Raiffeisen are pushing for the bank's removal from a Ukrainian list termed "international sponsors of war," which aims to publicly shame companies engaged in business with Russia, implicating support for the war effort through activities like tax payments. Despite Austria's public support for Ukraine, several officials express reluctance to sever decades-old ties with Russia, believing in the possibility of restoring relations.<o:p></o:p>

In October, Austria's Foreign Minister, Alexander Schallenberg, openly criticised the blacklist as arbitrary during a European ministers' meeting in Kyiv, as reported by a person briefed on the discussions. Raiffeisen remains the sole Austrian company on the contentious list. Austrian officials have conveyed their concerns about the list in Brussels, raising the issue at meetings with EU officials and diplomats in recent weeks.<o:p></o:p>

While the Ukrainian blacklist lacks legal standing, its symbolic importance adds pressure on Raiffeisen to withdraw from Russia. The bank has expressed willingness to exit Russia, but concrete actions are yet to materialise. Raiffeisen had planned to spin off its Russian business, facing international regulatory pressure. Despite internal divisions within Raiffeisen's management and among the controlling Landesbanks, key Austrian officials are staunchly supporting the bank, integral to the country's economy.<o:p></o:p>

Raiffeisen, with approximately 2,600 corporate customers, 4 million local account holders, and 10,000 staff in Russia, has become a litmus test for Western resolve to sever ties with Russia. In October, Austria's Foreign Minister, Alexander Schallenberg, openly criticised the blacklist as arbitrary during a European ministers' meeting in Kyiv, as reported by a person briefed on the discussions. Raiffeisen remains the sole Austrian company on the contentious list. Austrian officials have conveyed their concerns about the list in Brussels, raising the issue at meetings with EU officials and diplomats in recent weeks. Bank representatives have engaged with Ukraine's National Agency of Corruption Prevention, responsible for the list, to explore avenues for Raiffeisen's removal. While some companies, like Hungary's OTP Bank, have been successfully delisted due to government intervention, this move has displeased Austrian officials and Raiffeisen.
