Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Atal Tunnel in Himachal Pradesh’s Rohtang on October 3, which connects Solang Valley near Manali to Sissu in Lahaul and Spiti district. The Atal Tunnel is the longest highway tunnel in the world (9.02-km), built at an altitude of 3,000 meters.

Born on December 25, 1924, in Gwalior in Madhya Pradesh, Vajpayee&nbsp;<a href="http://www.wionews.com/india-news/atal-bihari-vajpayee-former-prime-minister-and-bjp-stalwart-dies-at-93-159594">passed away on August 16, 2018</a>, after a prolonged illness.

He was admitted to the hospital on June 11 with a kidney tract infection, chest congestion and urine output on the lower side.

Vajpayee, a diabetic, had one functional kidney and had suffered a stroke in 2009 that weakened his cognitive abilities. Subsequently, he developed dementia and was bed-ridden ever since.&nbsp;

The veteran BJP leader&nbsp;had served as the prime&nbsp;minister thrice – first for 13 days in 1996, then for 13 months from 1998 to 1999, and then from 1999 to 2004.
