<p>Former Congress Delhi President Arvinder Singh Lovely on Saturday (May 4) joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) days after resigning from the party.</p>

<p>Lovely joined the saffron party in the presence of Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri, BJP General Secretary Vinod Tawde and Delhi BJP chief Virendra Sachdeva.</p>

<p>Along with Lovely, several other leaders including former Congress MLAs Raj Kumar Chauhan, Naseeb Singh and Neeraj Basoya and former Youth Congress President Amit Mallik joined the BJP.</p>

<p>After joining the party, Lovely said, "I had resigned from the post of Delhi Congress President and after that, I met all my colleagues and thousands of Congress workers. All those people said that you should not sit at home and should continue fighting for the people of Delhi and the country."</p>

<h2><strong>Lovely wrote letter to Kharge</strong></h2>

<p>Lovely, who stepped down from the post of the Delhi Congress chief on April 28, wrote a letter to Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge citing that he was against the alliance between Congress and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in Delhi.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"The Delhi Congress unit was against an alliance with a party which was formed on the sole basis of levelling false, fabricated and malafide corruption charges against the Congress party. Despite that, the party made a decision to ally with the AAP in Delhi...," Arvinder Singh Lovely wrote in his resignation letter.</p>

<p>He further underlined that the remarks made by the North-East Delhi candidate Kanhaiya Kumar where he made "factually incorrect statements" and falsely praised Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, did not go well with the local party unit.</p>

<p>"Such ill-thought and factually incorrect statements have not gone down well with the local party unit since, the local party workers had an inherent understanding that the alliance was not done in appreciation of AAP's false propaganda of the development of Delhi and was in fact, a "compromise&nbsp;to improve the chances of victory for the party as part of the National Alliance," he said.</p>

<p>Voting for all the seven Lok Sabha constituencies in Delhi is scheduled to take place on May 25, which is the sixth phase of the ongoing general elections.</p>

<p>The results of the polls will be announced on June 4.</p>

<p>All the seven Lok Sabha seats in Delhi will go to polls on May 25, which is the sixth phase of the Lok Sabha elections. The seven seats in the national capital are-&nbsp;New Delhi, Chandni Chowk, East Delhi, North East Delhi, North West Delhi, West Delhi, and South Delhi.</p>

<p>The top contenders this time are the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the INDIA bloc (Congress and AAP).&nbsp;</p>

<h2><strong>BJP reacts to Lovely's resignation</strong></h2>

<p>"Things are not going well in the Congress. Ground-level leaders of the party are fed up... It seems that till yesterday they (Congress) used to accuse people of corruption, today they are contesting elections by making a compromise with the same people. How is this possible? It is clearly visible that people are feeling suffocated there, that is why they are resigning," BJP leader RP Singh told the news agency ANI.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The two-time Delhi minister had left the Congress to join the BJP in April last year ahead of the ahead of municipal elections.</p>

<p>It was not a happy decision for me (leaving Congress, joining BJP). It was a decision taken in pain. Ideologically I was a misfit there,&quot; Arvinder Singh Lovely said after rejoining the Congress.</p>

<p>Lovely was a minister in former chief minister Sheila Dikshit&#39;s government from 2003 till 2013.</p>

<p>&quot;I am feeling quite good that he (Arvinder Singh Lovely) has come back. He realised that in the end , only one&#39;s own house is good,&quot; Sheila Dikshit said.</p>
