<p>Actor-turned-politician Rajinikanth on Wednesday hit out at the anti-social elements in the recent anti-Sterlite protest and said that if you resort to protest for each and everything, Tamil Nadu will be turned into 'cemetery'.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Speaking to reporters after meeting the victims of the violent protests, the latest entrant into Tamil Nadu politics said, the entire problem started after anti-social elements attacked police and burned down Collector's office, as a result, peaceful protesters were killed.&nbsp;</p>

<p>''If you undertake protest for each and everything, Tamil Nadu will be turned into a cemetery,'' the actor said.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Earlier, he visited a general hospital in Thoothukkudhi as a "goodwill gesture" &nbsp;and met with the people who suffered injuries during the anti-Sterlite protests.</p>

<p>The actor also announced Rs 2 compensation for each of the kin of those who died in the protest.&nbsp;</p>

<p>He also warned the Tamil Nadu government on the occasion and said ''government needs to be careful as the people are watching."&nbsp;</p>

<p>As many as 13 people lost their lives in an anti-Sterlite protest which turned violent after a clash broke out between the protestors and the local police.</p>

<p>The locals were protesting for the closure of the factory for 99 days when the protests took a violent turn on May 22, the 100th day of their stir.&nbsp;</p>

<p>On Monday the government directed the permanent closure of the Sterlite copper smelting plant in Thoothukudi.</p>
