Maharashtra chief minister Devendra Fadnavis on Wednesday accused the West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee killing democracy in her state as she is scared of defeat.

"Democracy is being murdered in West Bengal. The way in which Amit Shah`s roadshow was attacked and police`s behaviour afterwards, seeing all this I believe that Mamata is scared of her defeat and is killing democracy and doesn`t even want to let anyone campaign in the state," he reportedly told news agency ANI about the clashes during BJP president Amit Shah`s roadshow in Kolkata on Tuesday. &nbsp;

Fadnavis also appealed to the Election Commission of India (ECI) to take necessary action in order to ensure free and fair election in the state.&nbsp;

Yesterday, BJP president Amit Shah too condemned the violence at his roadshow and accused "TMC goons of resorting to violence due to frustration".

Clashes reportedly broke out after some miscreants started throwing sticks at his convoy.

The incident took place on College Street in Kolkata when some TMC supporters allegedly started raising slogans against the BJP and the saffron party supporters responded by pelting stones and sticks at the Calcutta University gates, resulting in chaos and mayhem.

Visuals from the scene showed a fire outside the university gates.

Security forces later got down to control the situation. A statue of Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar was also vandalised at Vidyasagar College during the clashes.&nbsp;

BJP president Amit Shah on Friday said that Narendra Modi-led government has ensured peace and development in the northeast, which was roiled by militant activities even five years ago.

The BJP is committed to take action against cross-border terrorism and to root out insurgency in the northeast, he said, insisting that political stability returned to Arunachal after the saffron party came to power.

Modi had instructed his ministers to visit the northeast states every fortnight and resolve the problems of the people in the region, Shah said.

"Five years ago, the northeast was disturbed, there was hardly any development. The BJP has brought peace to the region and paved way for its development," he claimed.

"All parts of the northeast now have air and rail connectivity. In Arunachal alone, the govt has sanctioned Rs 50,000 crore for the development of roads," Shah stated.

Noting that Morarji Desai was the last prime minister who attended meetings of the Northeastern Council, Shah said 40 years later, it was Modi again who attended the convention in Shillong.

From Arunachal Pradesh to Kanyakumari, Assam to Gujarat, the BJP will form government everywhere, the BJP chief said, insisting that the winning streak of the party has started in this state.

"It is for the first time that BJP is fighting on all assembly seats in Arunachal Pradesh. Our winning streak started in this region when three MLAs of our party were elected uncontested," he said.

Three party candidates have been elected unopposed in Arunachal Pradesh from Aalo east, Yachuli and Dirang assembly constituencies.

Election to Assembly seats and Lok Sabha constituencies will be held simultaneously in Arunachal Pradesh on April 11.

BJP brought peace and development to northeast: Amit Shah

Bharatiya Janata Party president Amit Shah filed his nomination papers on Saturday for the Gandhinagar Lok Sabha seat in Gujarat.

Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, Home Minister Rajnath Singh, Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray and Chief Minister Vijay Rupani accompanied Shah.

The BJP chief submitted his nomination form to the Gandhinagar district collector and returning officer S K Langa.

BJP president Amit Shah Saturday held a massive roadshow here before filing his nomination for the Gandhinagar Lok Sabha constituency.

Lakhs of people greeted Shah on the four-km route from where his road show passed.

Union ministers Rajnath Singh and Piyush Goyal, Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani and Deputy Chief Minister Nitin Patel accompanied Shah in an open vehicle during the road show that started from Sardar Patel statue in Naranpura area in Ahmedabad.

BJP workers and people thronged the street to greet Shah, who is contesting the Lok Sabha election for the first time. It was a massive show of strength for the BJP, which aims to retain all the 26 Lok Sabha seats in Gujarat it had won in 2014.

The roadshow ended at Prabhat Chowk area of Ghatlodia, after which Shah left for Gandhinagar to file the nomination papers.
