The poll also shows that payment automation is increasing, with 84 per cent of Indian businesses reporting at least partially automated supplier payments and 39 per cent reporting full automation. Companies that have embraced automation report 58 per cent faster and more accurate billing and 54 per cent fewer errors made by humans.

Future projections indicate that 86 per cent of Indian businesses want to start automation for the process of collecting payments from customers. 83 per cent want to increase the level of automation they now use for payments to suppliers while 34 per cent of those who have not yet automated their payments are actively looking for partners to help them streamline their payment procedures.

With business travel across domestic and international markets showing a rebound post-Covid pandemic, the majority of Indian businesses (67 per cent) expect a rise in business travel in 2023, while 77 per cent of companies are expected to increase their travel budget in 2023 compared to 2022.

These findings were revealed in the business travel and entertainment (T&amp;E) survey report titled ‘Revival of business travel: An India perspective’ by American Express, India, with the Centre for Economics and Business Research (Cebr).

The report further indicated that 79 per cent of Indian businesses surveyed use business travel data analytics to assist with travel booking and expenditure, showing how important technology has become for the travel sector.

Along the broader technology ambit, the travel technology sector is constantly innovating. In the post-pandemic period, 43 per cent of financial decision makers surveyed said that using better software to manage expenses and travel is a crucial innovation.

“The sentiment is upbeat for corporate travel in India. While the past two years resulted in a temporary decline in business travel, domestic travel has resumed, and almost surpassed the pre-pandemic level. International travel is also picking up and we can expect a sustained recovery,” <a name="x__Hlk129341758">Manish Kapoor, Vice President and Head, Global Commercial Services (GCS),&nbsp;American Express Banking Corp., India said</a>.

“With increased average ticket prices expected to remain high in the medium term, Indian companies will be exploring technologies, and should adopt smarter solutions for better cost efficiencies,” he added.

In terms of the practical methods used to pay for travel expenses, two-thirds of companies (66 per cent) say they utilise third-party booking systems.

However, the report said that most businesses use multiple methods, with 61 per cent letting employees pay, while 57 per cent saying that they provide employees with access to a company credit card.

The survey report was conducted amongst 500+ Indian businesses across cities in the nation. It focuses on larger businesses, with half of the respondents seeing annual revenues greater than Rs 6 billion. About 82 per cent of businesses in the survey have 250 employees or more.

"Notwithstanding (the) lapse of considerable time and adequate opportunities being given, the entity (Mastercard) has been found to be non-compliant with the directions of Storage Payment System Data," the RBI said in a notification.

Mastercard&nbsp;will be indefinitely blocked from issuing debit, credit or prepaid cards to customers in India from July 22.

The move comes less than three months after India's central bank barred American Express and Diners Club International, owned by Discover Financial Services, from issuing new cards due to similar violations.

But unlike American Express, which is a relatively small player in India, companies such as&nbsp;Mastercard&nbsp;and Visa have partnered with many Indian banks that offer cards using the US&nbsp;firms' payments network.

In 2019,&nbsp;Mastercard&nbsp;said it was "bullish on India", announcing $1 billion in investment over the next five years, in addition to its earlier investment of $1 billion from 2014-2019.

The RBI's decision will not impact existing customers of&nbsp;Mastercard, and the company should advise all card issuing banks in India to comply with the order, the RBI added.

The RBI directive in 2018 sparked an aggressive lobbying effort from US&nbsp;companies, which said the rules would increase their infrastructure costs and hit their global fraud detection platforms, but the central bank did not relent.

How India secured four major strategic victories in 14 days amid pandemic

American Express has landed itself into trouble by engaging in discriminatory practices that include charging higher rates from its customers, according to federal regulators.

The company will have to pay $96 million to credit card customers in Puerto Rico and other US territories.

In addition to this, the US Consumer Financial Protection Bureau has also ordered American Express to pay $1 million and formulate new guidelines ensuring non-discriminatory card offerings in future.&nbsp;

The US CFPB announced recently that over 200,000 consumer&#39;s at two of the company&#39;s banking subsidiaries had been influenced by the practices.The Bureau also said that the company follows stricter credit cutoffs and less debt forgiveness for consumers outside the US states.&nbsp;

American Express clarified that the discrepancy, which was discovered by the organisation itself, had already been reported to the CFPB in 2013. The company also added that it had admitted compensating $95 million to the affected customers.&nbsp;

&quot;Having long since taken actions that the CFPB subsequently ratified, the company decided to settle with them rather than go through years of litigation that would have provided no additional value to any of its customers,&quot; American Express said.

Justifying The American Express, CFPB said that the company had not intentionally discriminated against customers. The discrepancy occurred due to different business units overseeing cards in US territories and US states.

&quot;They have ceased this practice and are making consumers whole. In particular, because they self-reported the problem and fully cooperated with our investigation, no civil penalties are being assessed in this matter,&quot; CFPB Director Richard Cordray said in the statement.

American Express has landed itself into trouble by engaging in discriminatory practices that include charging higher rates from its customers, according to federal regulators. The company will have to pay $96 million to credit card customers in Puerto Rico and other US territories. In addition to this, the US Consumer Financial Protection Bureau has also ordered American Express to pay $1 million and formulate new guidelines ensuring non-discriminatory card offerings in future. The US CFPB announced recently that over 200,000 consumer's at two of the company's banking subsidiaries had been influenced by the practices.The Bureau also said that the company follows stricter credit cutoffs and less debt forgiveness for consumers outside the US states. American Express clarified that the discrepancy, which was discovered by the organisation itself, had already been reported to the CFPB in 2013. The company also added that it had admitted compensating $95 million to the affected customers. "Having long since taken actions that the CFPB subsequently ratified, the company decided to settle with them rather than go through years of litigation that would have provided no additional value to any of its customers," American Express said. Justifying The American Express, CFPB said that the company had not intentionally discriminated against customers. The discrepancy occurred due to different business units overseeing cards in US territories and US states. "They have ceased this practice and are making consumers whole. In particular, because they self-reported the problem and fully cooperated with our investigation, no civil penalties are being assessed in this matter," CFPB Director Richard Cordray said in the statement.
