Air India has stopped serving non-vegetarian food on all domestic economy flights.

News reports said the change took place sometime in June this year.&nbsp;

Air India says the decision will lead to greater savings, and will also put a stop to unintentional mix-ups.&nbsp;

Non-vegetarian meals however will continue to be served in business class on domestic flights, and on all international flights. &nbsp;

A ruckus occurred last year on a Shanghi-Delhi-Mumbai flight after vegetarian passengers complained that they had been served non-vegetarian food.&nbsp;

&ldquo;We have decided to serve vegetarian meals in our economy-class seats on domestic flights,&rdquo; The Hindu reported Air India Chairman and Managing Director Ashwani Lohani as saying.&nbsp;

&ldquo;It also eliminates the possibility of mix-up: a non-veg meal getting served to a vegetarian passenger, as it had happened a few times in the past,&rdquo; he added. &nbsp;

The Hindu reported a senior Air India official as saying the decision should lead to Rs 8 crore in annual savings.&nbsp;
