The Indian Air Force is prepared to fight a war at a short notice, Air Chief Marshal BS Dhanoa said on Sunday (October 8).

Addressing IAF personnel on the Air Force Day,&nbsp; the Air Chief Marshal said the Air Force was fully geared up to face any security challenge to the country. 
 
&quot;We are prepared to fight at a short notice,&quot; he said, talking about the security scenario. 
 
Air Chief Marshal Dhanoa also said that the Air Force was acquiring multi-spectrum strategic capabilities and remained committed to building a &quot;joint manship&quot; with the Indian Army and the Navy. 
 
The Air Chief Marshal said the security of all Air Force stations has been enhanced to combat any threat, including sub-conventional threats, after the terrorist attack on the IAF base station in Pathankot last year. 
 
In January last year, terrorists sneaked in from across the border and attacked the air base. The attack claimed the lives of seven security personnel while four terrorists were killed.&nbsp;

&nbsp;Lieutenant&nbsp;General Bipin Rawat will be the next chief of the India Army and&nbsp;Air Marshal BS Dhanoa will head the Indian Air Force, the government announced on Saturday evening.

&quot;Government has decided to appoint Lt Gen Bipin Rawat, vice chief of army staff, as the next chief of army staff with effect from afternoon of December 31,&quot; the Defence Ministry said in a tweet. It also mentioned that Dhanoa would take over as the new Indian Air Force from the afternoon of December 31.

The incumbent army chief&nbsp;General Dalbir Singh and Air Force chief Arup Raha are set to retire on December 31.

Earlier, Anil Dhasmana was named as the chief of India&#39;s foreign intelligence agency RAW (Research and Ananlysis Wing) and Rajiv Jain was appointed the chief of Intelligence Bureau, the country&#39;s internal intelligence unit. Both of them will head the intelligence units for two years.

Rawat has reportedly superseded Lt Gens Praveen Bakshi and PM Hariz to take over the reins of the Indian Army.

Rawat was commissioned in the Fifth Battalion of the Eleven Gorkha Rifles in December 1978 and has been awarded for gallantry and distinguished service.

Government sources said Rawat was found best suited among the other candidates to deal with emerging challenges, including a reorganized and restructured military force in the north, continuing terrorism and proxy war from the west, and the situation in the North-East.

Supersession in the army is not new though there has not been any such instances in the recent past. In 1983, the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi had appointed Lt Gen A S Vaidya as army chief superseding Lt Gen S K Sinha, who resigned in protest.

Earlier in 1972, the Gandhi government side-stepped the very popular Lt General P S Bhagat, one of the handful of Indian Victoria Cross awardees from World War II, who was in line to succeed General (later Field Marshal) Sam Manekshaw. This was done by giving his junior, General G G Bewoor a year&#39;s extension, during which time Bhagat retired. Bewoor, thus, succeeded Manekshaw.

Meanwhile, Dhanoa is a Kargil War veteran.
