Critically acclaimed actress Natalie Portman was on stage with Ron Howard to introduce the nominees for Best Director at the coveted awards night when she made a point with how Hollywood Foreign Press Association promotes injustice even in the smallest things.&nbsp;

Amongst those who agreed, was the winner of the same award -- Guillermo del Toro who won Best Director &mdash; Motion Picture&nbsp;for his film &quot;The Shape of Water&quot;.&nbsp;

Over the course of 75 years, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association has nominated a woman for the Best Director prize just seven times. Barbra Streisand, who was nominated twice, is the only woman to have ever won. She took home the award for &quot;Yentl&quot;&nbsp;in 1984.

But this is not just true for Golden Globes as the same or even worse can be seen in Academy Awards. Since the Academy Awards first aired in 1929, just four women have been nominated for Best Director: Lina Wertmuller (Seven Beauties), Jane Campion (The Piano), Sofia Coppola (Lost in Translation) and Kathryn Bigelow (The Hurt Locker). Of these women, only Bigelow has taken home an Oscar.
