The film revolves around the life of a renowned filmmaker who creates a scandal in Bangladesh when he leaves his wife to marry his daughter’s friend. The film premiered at the Shanghai International Film Festival in 2017 and is now headed to the 91st Academy Awards, to compete for the award of Best Foreign Film.&nbsp;

Irrfan’s spokesperson said, “Irrfan is extremely happy to hear the news. It is an honour to be recognised by the jury and he is delighted that his film is getting the much-deserved acknowledgement at long last.”

Mostofa Sarwar Farooki said, “Obviously I am happy because No Bed of Roses is representing Bangladesh at the Oscars. I hope the film would find some love from the Academy voters. As for my collaboration with Irrfan, it would have been impossible to make this film without his involvement as an actor and co-producer! I share a wonderful relationship with him, on and off the set. I call him “poet” and he jokingly &nbsp;corrects me saying "I m a poet with no words" &nbsp;In this film, he actually expressed so many things with very little help of words and I m glad to have collaborated with one of the finest actors of not just India but globally!"

Rima Das’ National Award-winning feature “Village Rockstars” has been chosen to represent India in the Best Foreign Language category at the 91st Academy Awards next year, the Film Federation of India (FFI) announced Saturday.&nbsp;

The coming-of-age film follows Dhunu, a girl who grows up in poverty and learns to fend for herself. However, that does not prevent her from following her dream of forming a rock band and owning a guitar someday.

The announcement was made by SV Rajendra Singh Babu, Chairman, Selection Committee for Oscar Award, FFI. The film had its world premiere at the 2017 Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) and has toured more than 70 prestigious international and national film festivals.

Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s “Padmaavat”, Alia Bhatt-starrrer “Raazi”, Rani Mukerji fronted “Hichki”, Shoojit Sircar’s “October”, “Love Sonia” directed by Tabrez Noorani, “Tumbaad”, “Halkaa”, “Kadvi Hawa” and latest release “Manto” were part of the list of 28 films submitted for next year’s Oscars. No Indian film has ever won an Oscar. The last Indian film that made it to the final five in the Best Foreign Film category list was Ashutosh Gowariker’s “Lagaan” in 2001.

“Mother India” (1958) and “Salaam Bombay” (1989) are the other two Indian movies to have made it to the top five. Hindi film “Newton” by director Amit Masurkar and starring Rajkummar Rao was India’s official submission to the Oscars last year.

The story gives you goose bumps, takes you through an emotional journey and culminates in&nbsp;a myriad&nbsp;of difficult to articulate feelings.

The movie has rightly been nominated in the Best Adapted Screenplay category.&nbsp;

Direction: (4/5) 
Looking at directorial excellence exhibited in this film, It is hard to believe that Garth Davis never directed a feature before. From bringing out the emotions of a child to anxiety of an adult in search of his past, every element catches the eye.

Whenever a non-Indian director depicts India, he brings out the view from the eyes of a foreigner. Somehow, that view is so close to the reality that the audience is&nbsp;pulled into the film as a part of it. Garth Davis&rsquo; Lion&nbsp;does it all over again.

Acting: (5/5) 
Dev Patel as a tech savvy youth recalls the series The Newsroom, but his acting is far more mature, substantial and gripping. Nicole Kidman as Sue Brierley totally did&nbsp;justice to the role of a mother of adopted kids.

Sunny Pawar is the young star to watch for. The innocence of childhood,&nbsp;the street smartness&nbsp;of a five-year-old, and the pain of separation are all so well portrayed by this prodigy.

Entertainment: (5/5) 
As an emotional drama that brings out tears, sympathy, excitement and joy, this movie is a high on entertainment quotient.&nbsp;

Overall Rating: (4.5/5) 
Lion deserves to be seen in a&nbsp;theatre or on a 52 inch plasma TV. Be prepared with a box of tissues if overwhelming emotions turn you dewy-eyed and watch out for this one during the Oscars.
