The foundation stone laying ceremony for construction of a memorial for the late chief minister J Jayalalithaa will be held here on May 7, the ruling AIADMK said on Friday.

AIADMK coordinator O Panneerselvam and co-coordinator K Palaniswami said in a statement that the ceremony would be held at the mausoleum of the late chief minister at the Marina beach at 8.30 am&nbspon Monday.

The two leaders said Jayalalithaa had served as chief minister for 16 years, adding she had strived for the well-being of Tamils and the Tamil language.

Jayalalithaa, admitted to a hospital in September 2016, breathed her last on December 5 that year.
