World Cup: How orange colour was selected for India's away jersey

Ahead of the World Cup, International Cricket Council (ICC) had issued a guideline, requiring teams to have two different uniforms for all its televised tournaments except hosts England.

Keeping ICC's verdict in mind, India will be wearing an orange-blue jersey which was unveiled on Friday to distinguish themselves from hosts England who wear a lighter version of blue.

An ICC source revealed how orange colour was selected.

"Colour options were given to BCCI and they chose the colour combination that looked the best to them. The whole idea is to be different from blue as England also wears the same shade of blue as India," an ICC source told ANI.

"Also the design (orange) is taken from India's old T20 jersey which had orange in it. The designers who are sitting in the USA designed this jersey from something that already existed and not something completely new that fans don't identify with," the source added.

During the pre-match press conference, Virat said, "For one game, it's fine. I don't think permanently we'd be heading in that direction because blue has always been our colour, very proud to wear that. For a change and looking at the occasion, it's a very smart kit."

Kohli, however, loved the designed and gave it an eight out of 10. "The fit is great, it's a nice change," he said.

Just like India, few other teams like Afghanistan, South Africa, Sri Lanka appeared in different colour jerseys apart from their regular one.

For example, Afghanistan changed their blue kit to red in three matches, South Africa, who usually wear green, chose gold for two matches while Sri Lanka swapped their blue for yellow for a couple of games.
