
Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated weightlifter Mirabai Chanu, who clinched the first gold medal for India at the ongoing the 21st Commonwealth Games.
He also applaudedP Gururaja for opening India's medal account.
The official PM Modi tweeted, "Congratulations to Saikhom Mirabai Chanu for winning India’s first Gold at the #GC2018 games and breaking three CWG records. India is delighted by these achievements."
Earlier, P Gururaja opened India's medal tally by claiming a silver in the men's 56kgWeightlifting section.

Mirabai Chanu lifted more than double her body weight (103kg, 107kg and 110kg) in three successful attempts to clinch the gold and smashed the overall Games record.
For his outstanding performance, she earned massive applause from the fans at the Carrara Sports and Leisure Centre.
The 23-year-old's previous best was a total lift of 194kg (snatch 85kg and 109kg in clean and jerk) achieved in the World Championships a few months ago.
