Both teams came into their final Group A tie with a victory over Japan, meaning that the winner would be assured of a place in the quarter-finals.

Filip Krajinovic gave Serbia the lead when he beat Jo-Wilfried Tsonga 7-5 7-6(5) before world number two Novak Djokovic eased past Benoit Paire 6-3 6-3.

France may still have a chance of progressing to the quarter-finals if they can win the doubles match featuring last Sunday's (November 17) world champions Pierre-Hugues Herbert and Nicolas Mahut against the Serbian pair of Janko Tipsarevic and Viktor Troicki.
