Underfire Mumbai Indians Captain Hardik Pandya has been slapped with a hefty fine of INR 12 lakh for maintaining slow over-rate during his side’s close win against Punjab Kings on Thursday (April 18) in IPL 2024. Even during the last two overs in the second innings, the touring MI side was penalised as only four fielders were allowed near the boundary instead of five.
"As it was his team's first offence of the season under the IPL's Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate offences, Pandya was fined Rs 12 lakhs," the BCCI said in a release.
Mumbai Indians fell short behind by two overs but managed to steal a tight win over PBKS by nine runs. The outfit in blue survived a close scare from Punjab’s find of the season, Ashutosh Sharma, who slammed a brilliant 21-ball 68 while chasing, putting his team in the winning position at one stage.
After getting reduced to 14 for four inside the Powerplay and 77 for six later in the inning, Punjab’s back was against the wall. Their two performers this season, Shashank Singh and Ashutosh, brought their A-game to the table, putting Hardik and Mumbai Indians under pressure.

However, with only four players allowed near the boundary line during the last two overs, Akash Madhwal bowled an excellent final over to restrict PBKS when they needed 13 off six balls.

"It was a very good game. Everyone's nerves got tested. We spoke that the characters would be checked in this game. It is natural you think you are ahead but IPL tends to show that opposition can come back and how," Hardik Pandya said after the win over Punjab Kings in Mullanpur.
Meanwhile, Jasprit Bumrah and Gerald Coetzee picked three wickets each, with Bumrah bowling the delivery of the match to dismiss PBKS batter Rilee Rossouw, bowled off a yorker. His exploits throughout the tournament, let alone in the previous game, are instrumental to his team picking pace following a jittery start.
WHAT. A. BALL! 🎯
That's a beaut of a delivery from @Jaspritbumrah93 to dismiss Rilee Rossouw ☝️
