
England's exemplary performancecaused India's 2-1 defeat in the recently concluded One Day International (ODI) series. The defeat endsIndia's ODI series winning streak that extended to nine rubbers. It is also the first time Men in Blue have lost an ODI series under Virat Kohli.
Virat Kohli had led India to eight ODI series victories since 2013, against Zimbabwe, Sri Lanka (twice), South Africa, Australia, West Indies, England and New Zealand.
Kohli was appointed the vice-captain of the ODI team in 2012 and handed over the Test captaincy following Mahendra Singh Dhoni's Test retirement in 2014.
In January2017, he became the limited-overs captain as well after Dhoni stepped down from the position.
Since 2013, Kohli has led India in 52 ODI matches and out of which India won 39, lost 12 and there was one match waswithout any result.
India is currently on England's tour to play 3-match T20 series, 3-match ODI series and 5-match Test series. In T20 series, India won the series 2-1 after defeating England in the decider clash, however, the team failed as a unitin ODI series.
India will now play a five-match Test series against England which will kick off from August 1 in Edgbaston, Birmingham. This is the first time India are facing England away from home in a Test series since 2014.
