Formula One: Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton to join Ferrari in 2025 season - Reports

Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton is set to join Ferrari in the 2025 season.The seven-time world champion had been linked with Ferrari in the recent past and speculations were rife regarding a massive switch. While both parties have denied any such negotiations taking place, it is believed that Hamilton is now set to move from Mercedes after the end of his two-year deal.

It is to be noted that Sky Sports television claimed that Mercedes principal Toto Wolff would brief the team before a formal announcement later on Thursday (Feb 1).Hamilton, 39, has been associated with Mercedes since 2013 and won his first title with McLaren 16 years back, in 2008.

It is interesting to note thatHamilton signed a multi-year contract with Mercedes last year for 2024 and 2025. Now, itappears that the second season may have only been an option with him set to move away.

Thus, Hamilton's move to Ferrari indicates that he will have an escape clause that means if he signs for Ferrari, he can be a part of themfrom 2025. While an official confirmation is expected anytime soon, it is a body blow especially for Mercedes who worked hard to extend the veteran star's stay last year. As of now, it is unclear what caused for such a massive switch as many expected Hamilton to see out his F1 career at Mercedes.
