
Former Australian cricketer Michael Slater was denied bail on domestic violence charges on Tuesday (April 16). Following the verdict, Slatercollapsed in court,at the Queensland state, and needed assistance to get back on his feet. The ex-player was remanded in police custody and charged with multiple domestic violence offences, including stalking and intimidation.
Police allegations against Slater were detailed in the court even as he applied for bail. Notably, the former cricketer was arrested for facing as many as 19 charges, including unlawful stalking, assaultoccasioning bodily harm, and choking or strangulation. However, the 54-year-old has brushed aside all such serious allegations in the court.
Slater was taken into custody following his bail application being rejected. In addition, his matter has been listed for a committal hearing on May 31. As reported by ABC News, the court heard that the veteran has mental health conditions that can result in "impulsive and reckless" behaviour.
Last week, Slater was arrested after complaints of domestic violence surfaced against him. Some of the alleged violent acts were even caught on CCTV at the women's property, as perFox Sports. The former cricketer, who has represented Australia in 74 Tests and 42 ODIs, was also charged with breaching bail and 10 counts of 'contravening a domestic violence order'.
Talking about Slater's international career, the former right-hander amassed 5,312 runs in Tests, including 14 hundreds. In ODIs, he couldn't make any such impact and only managed 987 runs with a best of 73. Since his retirement, he has been fairly active as a commentator.
