Pakistani army officer, 3 others allegedly kidnapped by militants linked to Tehrik-e Taliban Pakistan

Four people, including an army officer, were allegedly abducted by militants in Dera Ismail Khan, a district in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, northwest Pakistan, officials said on Thursday (August 29).
The officer, Lt.Col.Khalid Khan, was attending his father’s funeral and was seated in a mosque when the kidnapping happened, the Associated Press reported.
No group has claimed responsibility for the kidnapping as of now, which took place on Wednesday (August 28). However, local authorities said that a video of Khan was sent anonymously to his family, showing him in the custody of the Pakistani Taliban.
In the video, Khan is seen surrounded by armed men and appealing to the government to comply with the demands of the Pakistani Taliban, as per the AP report.

Tehrik-e Taliban Pakistan (TTP), also known as the Pakistan Taliban, is a coalition of militant groups that united in 2007 following military actions by Pakistan against militants linked to al-Qaeda. The TTP operates mainly in the volatile northwest region of the country.
Although the TTP is separate from the Afghan Taliban, it is allied with them and has grown more assertive since the Afghan Taliban took control of Afghanistan in 2021.
