Pakistan: 11 family members die in basement flooding as heavy rains wreak havoc

In a tragic incident,at least 11 members of a family, including women and children, died aftera basement in Pakistan'sKohat region flooded amid heavy rainson Tuesday (July 30), according to media reports.
The incident occurred in the Old Bazid Khel area of Dara Adam Khel after torrential rainfall hit the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa region in Pakistan.
As per reports by Rescue 1122 officials, the family was trapped in the basement of Amjad's house when the rainwater started flooding the area.
The emergency team recovered 11 bodies in total while searching for a missing girl. The Governor of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Faisal Karim expressed condolences over the loss of lives.
Heavy rains pouring down in Peshawar, Swabi, and surrounding areas have been causing flooding and water logging in low-lying areas. The rains have damaged crops and disrupted electricity supply in Swabi.
In another incident, two bulls were rescuedby emergency teams after theroof of a livestock shed in Kotha collapsed.
On Monday, the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) stated that all rivers and streams in Punjab were flowing normally despite the ongoing monsoon rains.
A PDMA spokesperson told The Express Tribune that water levels in dams and barrages remain stable. Currently, Mangla Dam is at 58 per centcapacity, while Tarbela Dam stands at 69 per cent. Meanwhile, Indian dams on the Sutlej, Beas, and Ravi rivers have water levels up to 39 per cent.
Three students died after flooding at coaching centre in India
A similar incident occurred inDelhi's Old Rajender Nagar, where three students diedafter the basement of Rau's Study Circle flooded on Saturday (July 27).
This incident has raised concerns about the rapid growth of coaching centres nationwide and the risks students face due to the irregularities of these institutions.
It has sparkeddiscussions, protests, and investigations into the regulation of coaching institutes in various cities across the country.
