There are fresh reports of tension inKerala where Jishnu Prannoy, a deceased engineering student’s mother was arrested earlier today.

Jishnu Prannoy was a student of Nehru College of Engineering in Thrissur, Kerala. He was found hanging after being allegedlytortured by college authorities in January. Most accused in the case have not been arrested.

The family of the deceased believe that physical and mental harassment by the college authorities had led to Jishnu'ssuicide, his parents have demanded thearrest of all those who were involved, including Nehru College chairman Krishna Das. The parents have continued to protest, demanding the arrest of those responsible for their son'sdeath. Mahija, mother of the deceased was forcibly removed and arrested today in front the state police headquarters after she continued her protest on the road and resisted police intervention.

According to the police, the protesters continued even after a warning was issued by the security personnel. Police had earlier warned the protesters to stage any form of protest at least hundredmetres away but they paid no heed and assembled at the headquarters at 10:15am(local time).

It is expected that all arrested would be taken to Nandavanam police camp where they will be let off on bail.

Both parties, Congress and BJP have now called for a strike in Thiruvananthapuram following police action on the parents of Jishnu Prannoy.
