Six Indians among 35 foreigners killed in Sri Lanka mayhem: Report

At least six Indians were killed in the serial bomb blasts that ravaged Sri Lanka on Easter Sunday in the island country's bloodiest day since the civil war ended a decade ago.

The Sri Lankan Foreign Affairs Ministry issued a statement regarding the death toll of foreign nationals following the explosions said nine foreign nationals are reported missing, while 25 unidentified bodies believed to be those of foreign nationals are currently at the Colombo Judicial Medical Officer’s mortuary.

Six Indians, two of them womenwere among the 35 foreigners dead while some others had a narrow escape, reports said.

People from at least eight countries were killed in the series of attacks on churches and hotels in Sri Lanka, including citizens of Britain, India,Denmark, China, Turkey and Netherlands and Portugal.

Out of Sri Lanka's total population of around 22 million, 70 per cent are Buddhist, 12.6 per cent Hindu, 9.7 per cent Muslim and 7.6 per cent Christian, according to the country's 2012 census.

The ministry said in a statement earlier that nine foreign nationals were reported missing and that 25 unidentified bodies at the Colombo Judicial Medical Officer's mortuary were believed to be that of foreigners, reported CNN.

At least 290people were killed and hundreds of others suffered injuries in a series of eight explosions in churches and high-end hotels in Sri Lanka, reported CNN.No group has claimed responsibility for the attacks yet.

Several countries including India, Unites States and the United Kingdom have condemned the attacks.

Meanwhile, the Sri Lankan Special Task Force raided a house in Colombo's Orugodawatta in connection with the blasts. Seven people were also arrested in relation to the attacks by the authorities earlier.
