Xiaomi Mi Max 2 India launch reportedly scheduled for July 26

Xiaomi last year announced the Mi Max phablet with a 6.44-inch full HD display for Rs 14,999. Earlier this year in May, the company finally launched the phablet’s successor, called the Mi Max 2. This new phablet boasts the same display size and resolution but comes with incremental upgrades under the hood. Now it seems like Xiaomi is gearing up to bring the Mi Max 2 to India which is expected to fall within the 20,000 price tag.

While there is no official word yet from Xiaomi, a 91mobiles report suggests that the Mi Max 2 launch could take place on July 26. The report further suggests that the Mi Max 2 will initially be sold via online channels, but will eventually be available on offline channels. The launch time frame falls in line with a teaser by Xiaomi India head Manu Kumar Jain, who hinted at an announcement on July 23. While all signs point to a Mi Max 2 launch, some reports claim that Xiaomi could, in fact, launch its flagship Mi 6 smartphone.

The Xiaomi Mi Max 2 was launched in China with a price tag of RMB 1,699 (Rs 16,000 approximately) for the 64GB variant, and RMB 1,999 (Rs 19,000 approximately) for the 128GB variant. The report claims that Xiaomi will be sticking to the sub-Rs 20,000 price tag for the Mi Max 2 in India. In comparison, last year’s Mi Max was priced at Rs 14,999 for the 4GB/64GB variant and Rs 19,999 for the 4GB/128GB internal storage variant.

The Xiaomi Mi Max 2 features a 6.44-inch full HD (1080p) display. It is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 625 processor paired with 4GB of RAM. On the camera front, the smartphone sports a 12-megapixel rear camera with a Sony IMX386 sensor and features like auto-focus, LED flash, PDAF support, and HDR. For selfies and video calling, the smartphone comes with a 5-megapixel camera.

Keeping the phablet ticking is a massive 5,300mAh battery, which the company claims is good enough to last for two days on a single charge. Xiaomi further claims that the battery is expected to last for 18 hours of video playback, 10 days of music playback; talk time of up to 57 hours and one can play games for up to nine hours. The battery also supports Qualcomm’s Quick Charge 3.0 and reverse charging. On the connectivity front, the phablet includes dual-SIM support, 4G LTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and USB Type-C support.
