Israel's security cabinet faces assassination threat from Iran, Hezbollah

The members of the security cabinet in Israel have received a warning that Iran and Hezbollah may try to assassinate a top security official of Israel, as reported by the Ynet news site.

Their likely targets can be Israeli ministers, intelligence officials, current or former military officers, senior officials in the Shin Bet or Mossad and parliament members, as per the report.

Because of the threat, Israel’s Shin Bet spy agency has been on heightened alert, Ynet said.

The assassination threat has emerged at a time when Israel has been prepared for an expected attack from Iran as well as its allies, who had vowed to avenge thekilling of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyehin Tehran on July 31.

Israeli Foreign Minister Israel Katz, while speaking to his French and British counterparts Friday (August 16), said that his country hopes to get support "in attacking" Iran if it bombards Israel.

"If Iran attacks, we expect the coalition to join Israel not only in defence but also in attacking significant targets in Iran," said Katz, while speaking to his French and UK counterparts.

Hezbollah reveals underground tunnel in new video

Hezbollah released a new video with the title "Our Mountains Are Our Stores" in which the underground tunnels and missile storage facility of the Lebanese militant group was shown.

In the four-and-a-half-minute video, Hezbollah officials were seen working in illuminated underground tunnels as well as shifting large missile launchers and trucks.

The facility was named "Imad 4" in remembrance of their slain commander Imad Mughniyeh.

Israelhas been facing diplomatic pressure to finalise a truce which can avert a wider war in the region amid theongoing talks in Qatar.

The international negotiators have for months not been able to finalise a truce or hostage release deal, however, the tensions have escalated in the region after Ismail Haniyeh's killing and have underscored the urgency to reach a ceasefire agreement.

In the talks, the Palestinian militant group Hamas were not present as they said that they had accepted the terms and that Israel now needs to agree to it.
