Women in India created a revolution against triple talaq: Modi

Prime minister Narendra Modi while addressing the nation at the 70th Independence Day today said women in India had to lead a "pitiable life due to triple talaq".

PM Modi was referring to the issue of women exercisingthe option of saying 'no' to triple talaq at the time of execution of 'nikahnama' (Islamic marriage contract). India's top court had recently asked theAll India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB)whether a woman can be given an option of saying 'no' to triple talaq at the time of marriage.

"The women of this country created a revolution against triple talaq.I admire their courage. I believe India will fully support the women in their struggle," India's Prime Minister declared.

"In our nation, there is no one big or small... everybody is equal. Together we can bring a positive change in the nation. We have to take the country ahead with the determination of creating a 'New India',"the PM said while addressing the nation from the ramparts of the Red Fort at New Delhi.
