Siachen, tucked away in the mighty Himalayas, is known for its extreme weather conditions with the temperature dropping to as low as -70 degrees Celsius. The plight and mental strength of Indian Army soldiers posted there is undeniably unimaginable. A video that has recently gone viral on social media stands testimony of the same.
The two-minute-long video, posted on Facebook by Indian Military Academy, Dehradun, shows three Indian Army personnel trying to break eggs but in vain as the eggs seemed completely frozen.
One of the armymen tears open a carton of packaged juice only to reveal the content inside frozen brick-hard.
The video was posted online on Saturday and by the time this piece was being written, it had over 45 thousand views, over 150 comments and more than a thousand shares.
The video depicts what Indian Army personnel go through and how they brave the grave circumstances every day while being posted at Siachen.
"See the condition of the eatables of troops stationed in Siachen glacier, juice turns out to be a brick, frozen egg, potatoes, tomatoes etc..., with this they have to survive there in Siachen for 3 months. This is where they serve, where the temperature can go down from -40 to -70 degree Celsius. May God be with them, protect them and bless them," the post read.
In his first visit as Defence Minister, Rajnath Singh on June 3 visited the world's highest battlefield - the Siachen Glacier - where he interacted with Army troops and paid tributes to the soldiers who sacrificed their lives in the line of duty.
In a series of tweets, Rajnath lauded the personnel for performing their duty with great courage despite unfavourable terrain.
"I salute your spirit, your valour from the bottom of my heart. Jawans and officers in the Armed forces have a sense of pride, that is the strongest sentiment in the heart of any human," Singh said while addressing personnel at the Siachen Base Camp.
