The women allegedly molested Thursday evening shouted for help. ||Proctors refused to help her saying to go back and not to wait to get raped.
Women students today gathered in a large number at the entrance of Banaras Hindu University (BHU), hours before Prime Minister Narendra Modi was scheduled to visit the city, and held a sit-in protest to highlight their concerns about molestation cases on campus.
One of them, Akansha Singh, even tonsured her head to protest the recent molestation of her friend, a fellow student near the university's school of fine arts, Kala Bhawan.
According to Akansha, what's more shocking is that guards posted barely 20 metres away ignored her friend's cries for help. Akansha said she herself had a similar experience a month back and thought her shaved head may deter the molesters.
The women students blocked the entrance to BHU campus as Modi's convoy was expected to pass through that route. Modi is on a two-day-visit to Varanasi, his Lok Sabha constituency.
Akansha claimed that even the proctor refused to help her colleague and told her to go back and not wait to get raped as it was already late.
The protesting students said the authorities did not take any action against the guilty men or the proctors. They said the chief proctor had asked them to "keep quiet" until Modi's visit was over, DNA reported.
