Total coronavirus cases in India rise to 42,533; death toll stands at 1,373

Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on Friday reported that countrywide COVID-19 death toll has reached 1,373 while the number of cases climbed to 42,533.

According to the available data, the total active cases in the country reached 29453, a total of 11707 cured/discharged/migrated and 1,373 deaths.

In the last 24 hours, the country saw the steepest jump in the number of patients in a day, with 2,553 new cases. 72 people have died in 24 hours.

In Maharashtra, the state with the highest number of COVID-19 cases, the tally has touched 12,974, including 548 deaths.

Through a graded, pre-emptive and pro-active approach, the Government of India is taking several steps along with the states/UTs for prevention, containment and management of COVID-19. These are being regularly reviewed and monitored at the highest level, the ministry said.

The Indian Council of Medical Research has said that a total of 280 government laboratories in the country are conducting tests for Covid-19. ICMR also released a list of 90 private labs which will conduct the testing.

Meanwhile, Two floors of the Border Security Force (BSF) Headquarters were closed on Monday after a Head Constable working there was found COVID-19 positive on Sunday.

The BSF Headquarters is a few hundred metres far from the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) Headquarters, which was sealed on Sunday after a bus driver deputed there was found COVID-19 positive.
