Surjit Bhalla resigns as part-time member of Economic Advisory Council to PM Modi

Eminent economist and columnist Surjit Bhalla on Tuesday said that he had resigned as a part-time member of Economic Advisory Council to the Prime Minister(EAC-PM) on December 1.
"I resigned as part-time member of PMEAC on December 1," Bhalla said on social networking site Twitter.
The EAC- PM is headed by Niti Aayog member Bibek Debroy.
Economists Rathin Roy, Ashima Goyal and Shamika Ravi are other part-time members.
On Monday, RBI governor Urjit Patel had resigned citing personal reasons.
"On account of personal reasons, I have decided to step down from my current position (RBI Governor) effective immediately. It has been my privilege and honour to serve in the Reserve Bank of India in various capacities over the years," Patel had said in a statement.
Patel is the first RBI governor to step down before completing his term since 1990. Patel's resignation came after weeks of tussle between the government and the RBI over issuing the central bank's reserve funds.
The government was of the opinion that the bank should hand over a larger share of them to the government.
