Yesterday, PM Modi and defence minister Nirmala Sitharaman visited the Marshal at the Research and Referral Hospital in Delhi where he was hospitalised after suffering from a cardiac arrest.

Arjan Singh played a major role in the 1965 war between India and Pakistan and was awarded Padma Vibhushan the same year.

He was the only officer of the Indian Air Force to be promoted to a five-star rank.

Last year an Air Force base at Panagarh in West Bengal was also named after him.
