
Benchmark indices fell on Wednesday pulled down by oil companies, while mining and energy conglomerate Vedanta Ltd hit an over 10-month low as protests against its copper plant in south India turned violent.
BSE Sensex closed lower by 306.33 points, or 0.88%, to 34,344.91, while the Nifty 50 fell 106.35 points, or 1.01%, to close at 10,430.35.
All the sectoral indices on BSE, except capital goods and consumer durables, ended lower with metal, oil and gas, basic materials and energy fell up to 3.93%.
