Gujarat elections: Rahul Gandhi gets math wrong, deletes tweet

As the Gujarat elections draw closer, political parties and their leaders are tightening the noose on the competition.

In what can be suggested as a move to highlight escalating inflation under the rule of PM Modi's government, Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi tweeted an image which he later deleted owing to its erroneous content.

The tweet contained mathematical figures comparing prices of some of the essential everyday commodities between years 2014 -- when general elections were last held -- and 2017, suggesting massive price rise and inflation. What went wrong? The math did!

According to the figures tweeted, a gas cylinder cost Rs 414 in the year 2014 while it now comes for Rs 742 -- a spike of 79% which was quoted as a 179% increase in the figure tweeted by Office of Rahul Gandhi.

And it went on; the price of pulses was quoted to have risen by 177 percent instead of 77 percent, tomatoes were 285 percent more expensive now instead of 185 percent while onions had gone up by 200 percent instead of 100 percent and milk by 131 percent instead of 31 percent.

Lately, Rahul Gandhi has been seen posting a host of questions, demanding the Prime Minister address each; but the latest one in the series seems to have backfired.
