A video in which Tripura chief minister, Biplab Kumar Deb, purportedly stating that Rabindranath Tagore had given away his Noble prize in protest against the British, has surfaced.
Deb while speaking at a function in Udaipur on Rabindra Jayanti said, "Tagore returned his Nobel award in protest against the British."
Tagore, in reality, had repudiated Knighthood in protest against the Jalianwalla Bagh massacre. In the past, there was a huge uproar over the theft of Rabindranath Tagore's Nobel Prize medal.
Deb recently courted controversy when he said internet existed in the days of epic Mahabharata.
"India is using internet since several lakhs years. In Mahabharata Sanjay, who was blind was narrating to Dhritarashtra as to what is happening in battlefield due to internet and technology."
The Tripura CM later said all international fashion and design contest organized in Paris are run by “international marketing mafia”.
Deb also stated that mechanical engineers should not opt for civil services but civil engineers should.
He even adviced the educated youth in his state to "set up paan shops and milk cows instead of running after political parties for several years to get government jobs and waste vital time of their life".
