Story highlights

A trainer aircraft belonging to a private company crashed near Baramati airstrip in Maharashtra's Pune district on Sunday (August 9).

A trainer aircraft of a private company crashed near Baramati airstrip in the Pune district of Maharashtra on Sunday (August 9). The crash occurred at around 12:35 PM within the airport premises, a short distance from the runway. No casualties were reported, though the aircraft suffered minor damage. More details related to the incident are awaited.

This marks the second such incident at Baramati, following an earlier crash involving another private trainer aircraft on May 13. That accident, too, caused no serious injuries, with the trainee pilot, the aircraft's sole occupant, escaping unhurt near Gojubavi village, close to the Baramati airstrip.

In that case, part of the aircraft had struck an electric pole just before landing. "As per preliminary information received from witnesses, the aircraft was flying at a comparatively low altitude when it developed a technical malfunction. During the crash landing, one side of the aircraft reportedly hit an electric pole before it struck the ground," an officer had said.
