President Ram Nath Kovind on Saturday conferred Padma awards. Eminent personalities including senior advocate and former leader of opposition HS Phoolka, ISRO scientist Nambi Narayanan, former Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir and Bollywood actor Manoj Bajpayee, among others, were honoured.
While advocate HS Phoolka, cricketer Gautam Gambhir, Bollywood actor Manoj Bajpayee were conferred Padma Shri, Narayanan was honoured with Padma Bhushan.
Those who were honoured with Padma Shri include Swapan Chaudhuri for the field of art - music (tabla), Indian football captain Sunil Chhetri, Bombayla Devi Laishram for archery and Basketball player Prashanti Singh.
D Prakash Rao, a tea seller from Odisha's Cuttack, also received Padma Shri for running a school for children living in slums. He has been awarded in the field of social work - affordable education.
Padma Bhushan award was conferred upon Mahashay Dharampal Gulati, the owner of MDH under 'Food and Processing' category. Mountaineer Bachendri Pal was also honoured.
Padma Vibhushan was awarded to folk singer Teejan Bai.
On March 11, as many as 47 prominent personalities, including Malayalam actor Mohanlal, former foreign secretary S Jaishankar, Akali Dal leader Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa and renowned journalist Kuldip Nayar (posthumous), were conferred the Padma awards by President Ram Nath Kovind.
The Padma Awards - one of the highest civilian awards of the country -- are conferred in three categories: the Padma Vibhushan, the Padma Bhushan and the Padma Shri.
