PM Modi completes 2-day meditation at Kanniyakumari, to return to Delhi as Lok Sabha polls end

India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday (June 1) ended his meditation after 45 hours at the Vivekananda Rock Memorial in Kanniyakumari in the southern Tamil Nadu state. He will now return to Delhi and await the results of the Lok Sabha elections, which have come to a close after seven phases of voting.

PM Modi also paid floral tributes to Tamil saint poet Thiruvalluvar. From May 30 evening to June 1 evening, the prime minister remained on a spiritual sojourn for nearly two days.

The prime minister meditated for the entire day and night at the same place where earlier Swami Vivekananda had meditated. This place is called the Dhyan Mandapam.

PM Modi's meditation coincides with the final phase of the Lok Sabha elections 2024 which concluded on Saturday (June 1).

The prime minister reached Vivekananda Rock Memorial in Kanyakumari on Thursday (May 30). There, Modi performed the 'Surya Arghya' during sunrise.

Bihar's former deputy chief minister and RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav dismissed the spiritual activity of PM Modi as mere "photo shoots."

"Modi ji isn't doing any meditation, only photo shoots are happening. Once the photo shoot ends, they will come back," Yadav said.

All about Dhyan Mandapam and its spiritual significance

It is believed that the Dhyan Mandapam is the place where the revered Hindu philosopher Swami Vivekananda had a divine vision about 'Bharat Mata'.

As per mythology, Goddess Parvati had meditated on one foot at the same location while waiting for Lord Shiva. This place is located at the Southernmost tip of India.

It is the same place where India's Eastern and Western coastlines meet each other. This is also the meeting of Bay of Bengal, Arabian Sea and the Indian Ocean.

By meditating in Kanniyakumari, the prime minister is trying to send a signal of national unity.

During the Lok Sabha 2024 elections, PM Modi led nearly 206 election campaign events, which included rallies and roadshows. He also gave 80 interviews to various news organisations.

The prime minister had even earlier undertaken spiritual journeys after ending the election campaigns. He visited Kedarnath in 2019 and Shivaji's Pratapgarh in 2014.
