
Supreme Court says 5 activists to only be kept under house arrest, issues notice to Maharashtra govt
The Supreme Court said Wednesday that the five activists arrested yesterday by Pune Police were not to be transferred to Maharashtra but were to be kept under house arrest till September 5. 
"Dissent is the safety valve of democracy," the court had said earlier. 
"If dissent is not allowed, then the pressure cooker may burst," the court added. 
Four Jammu and Kashmir policemen were shot dead by terrorists in the Arahama area of South Kashmir's Shopian on Wednesday.
The terrorists fired on the cops while they were repairing their vehicle in Bongam village. 
While two cops died on the spot, two succumbed to their injuries in hospital.
India's Arpinder Singh won the gold in the men's triple jump at the ongoing 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta, Indonesia.
This was India's 10th gold. Singh's compatriot Rakesh Babu finished sixth.
Arpinder jumped a total distance of 16.77 metres for his gold.
