Navjot Singh Sidhu has suggested a cricket series between the winners of the IPL and the Pakistani league.
Sidhu added that cricket could bring India and Pakistan together.
The statements were made to a Pakistani TV news channel. Sidhu had been in Islamabad for Imran Khan's swearing in as Pakistani prime minister.
While he was there, some unnecessary controversy was generated in India after Sidhu hugged Pakistani Army chief Qamar Bajwa and because he was seated next to Pakistan-occupied Kashmir President Masood Khan.
Imran Khan however came quickly to his defence, saying he was an "ambassador or peace".
Sidhu meanwhile told the Pakistani channel that he would remember his trip to Pakistan for the rest of his life. He called the trip a "new beginning".
"I hope I have laid the foundations and someone will work on it," Sidhu said.
