Mumbai-bound Akasa Air flight diverted to Ahmedabad after receiving 'security alert'

An Akasa Air flight flying from Delhi to the Indian financial capital city of Mumbai, on Monday (Jun 3) morning was diverted to Gujarat’s Ahmedabad airport after it received a security alert, said a spokesperson for the airline. The flight was reportedly carrying 186 passengers, including an infant, and six crew members.

Delhi-Mumbai flight diverted

Akasa Air flight QP 1719 landed safely at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport in Ahmedabad at 10:13 am (local time) after it received a “security alert",said a spokesperson for the airline, as quoted by ANI.

“As per prescribed safety and security procedures, the plane was diverted to Ahmedabad,” said the airline. It added, “All passengers have been deplaned. Akasa Air is following and supporting all safety and security protocols on ground.”

Bomb threat note on Vistara flight

Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport, on Sunday (Jun 2) had declared a full emergency after a Vistara flight with 306 people on board coming from Paris received a bomb threat prior to its arrival, reported news agency PTI citing sources.

The flight landed at the airport in Mumbai at 10:19 am (local time). According to the airline, its flight UK024 from Paris’ Charles de Gaulle Airport received a threatening handwritten note on an airsickness bag.

The source told the news agency that there were 294 passengers and 12 crew members on the Paris-Mumbai flight. The airline, confirming the incident, said that it followed protocol and promptly informed the relevant authorities.

Bomb scare delays Kolkata-bound Indigo flight

In yet another incident on Mondaymorning, a Kolkata-bound IndiGo flight was delayed at the Chennai airport after receiving a call, warning that a bomb would explode on the aircraft, reported news agency PTI, citing officials.

The call about the bomb threat was received by the IndiGo call centre located at Thuraipakkam, Chennai prompting officials to move the flight to an ‘isolated bay’ for a security check.

The flight was allowed to depart by 10:30 am (local time) two hours after it was scheduled to takeoff, following the completion of security procedures, said the officials as per PTI.

Varanasi-New Delhi IndiGo flight bomb threat

A bomb threat was also made on an IndiGo flight from Varanasi to New Delhi, which the police, after thorough checks, determined was a hoax.

According to the Delhi police, a woman called and informed the airport security that her husband, travelling on the IndiGo flight, was carrying a bomb in his handbag.

The passenger, identified as 42-year-old Vimal Kumar from Meerut, was interrogated. He said that his wife made the call after watching the news about a bomb threat on an aircraft a few days earlier and that she is “mentally unfit",according to PTI.

The airlinesaid that its flight 6E 2232 had received a bomb threat and was taken to an “isolation bay as per security agency guidelines and the crew followed all standard operating procedures,” after it landed in Delhi. All passengers had safely disembarked.
