
A 40-year-old man living in India’s financial capital city Mumbai jumped into the sea from Mumbai Trans Harbour Link, officially known as Atal Setu, on Monday morning.
The police said they have launched a search and rescue operation for the man after a passerby alerted the authorities.
“The incident occurred at Sewri around 10 am. We checked the CCTV footage and found that the man had come to Atal Setu in a car. We checked the number plate of the car and found that the car was registered in the name of one Sushant Chakravarti. Efforts are underway to trace the man and pull him out of the sea,” said apolice officer.
During their investigation, officers examined Chakravarty’s vehicle, which led them to identify him and learn that he lived in Parel with his wife and daughter.
“We called his family to the police station. During the inquiry, Chakravarty’s wife revealed that he was under tremendous work pressure,” revealed one of the police officers investigating the incident.
Police further added, “We have examined Chakravarty’s mobile phone but have not found any notes indicating his intentions. Chakravarty was working as a manager at the bank’s Hutatma Chowk office in Fort. Over the weekend, he had even taken his family for a getaway to Lonavala. On Monday, he informed his family he was going to the office but instead went to Atal Setu and jumped off the bridge.”
Search teams have been deployed to locate the man in the sea.
This is not the first incident at Atal Setu, previously, five cases of suicide attempts have taken place. In most of the cases, the victimsweresaved due to timely police intervention.
