Camera captures man jumping off Atal Setu bridge in Mumbai to end his life

In a chilling incident, CCTV captured a 38-year-old man jumping off Atal Setu bridge in Mumbai to attempt suicide on Wednesday afternoon (July 24).
In the video, aTata Nexon was seen stopping on the Mumbai Trans Harbour Link, after which the man got out of the vehicle.
He seemed determined to take his life as he rushed towards the railing of the bridge, climbed it, and, jumped off within seconds.
The man captured in the CCTV footage has been identified as K Shriniwas, who was an engineer and lived in Dombivli. He drove his car to the Mumbai Trans Harbour Link's Nhava Sheva and parked it at around 12:30 pm (local time) before dying by suicide.

"The rescue team from MTHL and coastal security police are looking for the man. Financial crisis is suspected to be the reason for taking the extreme step. He had left only his wallet in the car which had his Aadhaar card and company id card of Lodha where he had worked for a brief period in 2023. No suicide note was found from the car, his phonewas alsonotthere,” said senior police inspector Anjum Bagwan from Nhava Sheva police station, as reported by local media.
Man jumped off because of financial crisis: Family
According to the man's family members, Shriniwas was facing financial problems because of which he took the drastic step, as reported by PTI.
As per the police, Shriniwas had made a similar attempt to take his life in 2023 by drinking a floor cleaner while working in Kuwait.

He had left his home the previous night at approximately 11:30 pm and had called his wife and four-year-old daughter before taking the drastic step.
The Navi Mumbai Police, after receiving the reports of the incident, along with the coastal police, Atal Setu rescue teams and local fishermen, started an immediate search operation. Efforts are being made to find Shriniwas's body.
