A day after his statement dismissing Prime Minister Narendra Modi's allegation that he had conspired with Pakistani guests to interfere in the Gujarat elections, former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh reiterated his words in a video.
Earlier in the day, the two leaders briefly shook hands at an event in New Delhi to to pay homage to the victims of the 2001 Parliament attack.
"I am deeply pained and anguished by the falsehoods and canards being spread to score political points in a lost cause by none other than prime minister Shri Narendra Modi. Fearing imminent defeat in Gujarat, the desperation of prime minister to hurl every abuse and to latch on to every straw is palpable. Sadly and regrettably, Shri Modi is setting a dangerous precedent by his insatiable desire to tarnish every constitutional office including that of a former prime minister and army chief," reiterated the former prime minister in the video.
At a campaign rally in Gujarat, PM Modi had said that Congress leader Mani Shankar Aiyar, Manmohan Singh and former vice-president Hamid Ansari had met with the Pakistan high commissioner at a dinner in Delhi where they had colluded with Pakistani guests to interfere in the Gujarat elections.
