Citing email exchanges, BJP says Manmohan 'just a titular head' of UPA

Citing email exchanges between Congress president-elect and former union environment minister Jayanthi Natarajan, the BJP said Wednesday that Manmohan Singh was "just a titular head" of the UPA.

"Email exchanges between Rahul Gandhi and Jayanthi Natarajan show that all decisions were directly taken by the family and PM Manmohan Singh was just a titular head," Union MinisterPiyush Goyal said.

"We have accessed email in which Jayanti Natarajan when UPA minister was even willing to go home to meet personal secretary of Rahul Gandhi. This was how people not a part of government interfered in governance during UPA," Goyal added.

A long and bitter campaign -- accompanied by a number of startling accusations -- for the Gujarat elections came to a close on Tuesday evening.

A second and final phase of polling in Gujarat will be held tomorrow, and the results will be announced on December 18.

Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has since responded most strongly to the accusations, but that did not stop the BJP on Wednesday.

Goyal also accused Gandhi of being "willing to kill jobs in Gujarat to hurt development agenda":

"In UPA, how projects were stalled and environment ministry was used is evident in the email," Goyal said.
