A man found a live centipede in a curd preparation that was part of an Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) meal and shared the photos on social media. Aaraynsh Singh, a Delhi resident, said he was dining at an IRCTC VIP Executive Lounge when he noticed the insect floating in his cup of raita.
He posted the picture while responding to a post stating that the quality of the food served by Indian Railways has improved in recent years.
“Yes, for sure, Indian Railway food quality has improved, now they are serving raita with more protein,” Aaraynsh wrote on X alongside the photo.
He later explained that the incident happened at a VIP lounge run by the IRCTC.
“This incident happened in one of the IRCTC VIP Executive Lounges, so you can imagine the quality in regular trains or pantry cars,” he wrote.
People in the lounge still ate the food
Singh said that after finding the disgusting insect in his meal, he warned others in the lounge about it. The people came over and saw the insect, ranted against the unhygienic conditions but continued anyway to consume it.
“People are crazy. I found a live insect in the food served at one of the IRCTC lounges. I stood up and told everyone to check their food, Everyone came to see it, got angry at the administration about the unhygienic conditions, and then went back to eating the same food!” Singh wrote.
The photo, meanwhile, disgusted people on social media who pushed Singh to lodge a complaint against the food. People also slammed IRCTC for not taking care about preparing hygienic meals.
IRCTC also responded to Singh's post and asked him for more details about the incident. A comment from its official X handle read, "Sir, inconvenience regretted. Kindly share receipt/booking details, station name along with mobile no for immediate action."
