Lok Sabha elections 2024: Kangana Ranaut quashes rumours of 'consuming beef', calls herself 'proud Hindu'

Actor-turned-politician Kangana Ranaut on Monday (April 8) denied the allegation of consuming beef and called herself a 'proud Hindu' on her social media handle.

Taking to X, she refuted the allegation that she consumes beef and wrote, “I don’t consume beef or any other kind of red meat, it is shameful that completely baseless rumours are being spread about me, I have been advocating and promoting yogic and Ayurvedic way of life for decades now such tactics won’t work to tarnish my image. My people know me and they know that I am a proud Hindu and nothing can ever mislead them, Jai Shri Ram."

Congress leader drags Ranaut in beef controversy

The controversy started after Congress leader Vijay Wadettiwar alleged that the actress had once claimed that she ate beef.

While addressing a rally in Maharashtra, the leader of the opposition in the state assembly said that Ranaut had written on X (then Twitter) about her love forbeef but has still beengiven the ticket to contest the Lok Sabha elections from the Mandi constituency in Himachal Pradesh by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

“Actor Kangana Ranaut had written on X that she liked and ate beef. And the BJP has given her a ticket for the Lok Sabha elections. The BJP was welcoming all corrupt leaders," said Wadettiwar, at a public rally.

Ranaut stepped into the field of politics recently after she was given a ticket from mandi and held a roadshow in the city. During the roadshow, she spoke about her difficult journey and how she was "bullied" by the film industry for not speaking good English.

"I have constructed a small Devi temple in my village and have built a house in Manali. I had struggled and worked hard to carve a niche for myself,” said the actress. "It is not that my father or husband is the chief minister and I have joined politics,” she added while attacking sitting Congress MP Pratibha Singh as well as her son PWD Minister Vikramaditya Singh.

Currently, Vikramaditya’s mother Pratibha Singh represents the Mandi parliamentary constituency in the Lok Sabha. The elections will be held in Himachal Pradesh in the last phase on June 1, while the counting of votes will take place on June 4.
