Lok Sabha Election Results 2024 top updates: INDIA bloc to sit in opposition, says will fight Modi's 'fascist rule'

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi invited Sri Lankan President Ranil Wickremesinghe and Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to attend his swearing-in ceremony scheduled for Saturday (June 8). Wickremesinghe has accepted the invitation extended by PM Modi.

President Droupadi Murmu hosted a dinner for the outgoing Union Council of Ministers, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, at Rashtrapati Bhavan.

After a meeting with NDA partners, PM Modi wrote, "Ours is an alliance that will further national progress and fulfill regional aspirations. We will serve the 140 crore people of India and work towards building a Viksit Bharat."

PM Modi wrote, "Thank President Putin for his call to convey his warm wishes and felicitations to the people of India for record participation in general elections and the NDA’s success. We underlined our shared commitment to further strengthen India-Russia Special & Privileged Strategic Partnership."

Arunachal Pradesh CM Pema Khandu arrived in Delhi after registering a victory in the State Assembly elections. He said, "This is a very good victory. For the third time, the people of the country have given a chance to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, so I am very happy..."

President of the European Council Charles Michel wrote, "Congratulations PM Modi on your results in India's General Elections, the world's largest election.  The EU is looking forward to continuing to deepen our strategic partnership with India.  Our continents must cooperate on the most pressing global challenges: climate change, peace & security, and the fight against poverty."
 

Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge said, " The constituents of INDIA bloc thank the people of India for the overwhelming support received by our alliance . The people's mandate has given befitting reply to the BJP and their politics of hate, corruption. This is a mandate in defence of the Constitution of India and against price rise, unemployment and crony capitalism and also to save democracy. The INDIA bloc will continue to fight against the fascist rule of the BJP led by Modi...."

Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge at INDIA parties meeting said the "mandate is decisively against Mr. Modi, against him and the substance and style of his politics. It is a huge political loss for him personally apart from being a clear moral defeat as well."

He also welcomed all INDIA alliance partners and said, "We fought well, fought unitedly, fought resolutely."

However, Kharge slammed Modi saying that the PM is "determined to subvert the will of the people."

"The INDIA Alliance welcomes all parties which shares its fundamental commitment to the values enshrined in the Preamble to our Constitution and to its many provisions for economic, social and political justice," he added in his opening remarks at the meeting. 

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived at the Rashtrapati Bhavan in Delhi to attend the dinner organised by President Droupadi Murmu.

After meeting with newly elected party MLAs, Outgoing CM and BJD chief Naveen Patnaik said, " We have worked hard to reduce poverty from 70 per cent to 10 per cent. Our efforts in agriculture, irrigation and women empowerment have led to this achievement ." BJP won the elections by securing 78 seats out of 147 seats in the assembly elections. 
 

Andhra Pradesh Governor Abdul Nazeer dissolved the 15th Legislative Assembly with the resignation of the Chief Minister.

Congress leader Prithviraj Chavan weighed in on INDIA bloc meeting. He said, "This is the first meeting of INDIA bloc after the elections. Whether the INDIA bloc should approach Nitish Kumar and N Chandrababu Naidu, it will be discussed during the meeting. I don't think we can form the government because we don't have the numbers." 

Chandigarh: Punjab Congress President Amarinder Singh Raja Warring said, "The people of Punjab have made their mind to bring Congress party in power. I thank the people of Punjab."

"Many leaders of the INDIA and NDA alliance are not picking up PM Modi's call as they want him to go and want someone else to form the government. If this happens, PM Modi will not be the Prime Minister of the country," he added. 

Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut says, "PM Modi should take oath as soon as possible. I will distribute sweets on behalf of him." 

NDA leaders have formally elected PM Modi as the alliance leader during the meeting. 

After the meeting with NDA MPs on 7th June. The allies of the NDA will meet President Droupadi Murmu. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Union HM Amit Shah and BJP president JP Nadda will together discuss the formation of the government with the allies, ANI reported citing sources. 

Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh: TDP winning candidate from Bapatla Lok Sabha seat Krishna Prasad Tenneti spoke to ANI. He said, "There is still a lot to be done for the people. Particularly in the area of skill development. There is huge potential. Our country is in the best moment right now. There is the best possible leadership both in the centre and state. NDA combination is the best thing to happen to India in history. I am proud to be a part of this history."

Tamil Nadu BJP chief K Annamalai says, "We accept the mandate of the people. We did not get the expected seats, but we are happy to form the government for the third time. We expected to send MPs from Tamil Nadu on behalf of the NDA alliance. We will work hard. We will analyze if there is any mistake and we will discuss it in a week. We are giving our best wishes to the MPs of the INDI alliance. We will support the MPs in bringing good schemes to the state. We see this election as a lesson and we will do better than before and make our candidates win in the upcoming elections in the state..."

Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut says, "Who is there in the NDA, Nitish Babu, Chandra Babu, two 'babus' are there. There is Chirag babu...'Dekh lenge'. The people have taken away BJP's majority and made them stand at 232. They are trying to form a 'Jod-tod wali sarkaar'. Let them do it, such efforts are made in a democracy. Let them go (take oath), if they have numbers, then they will go. We will keep seeing, we are getting entertained, why will we leave our entertainment?..."

Union Minister and BJP's candidate from Uttar Pradesh's Amethi Lok Sabha seat, Smriti Irani says, "...I express my gratitude to all the BJP party workers and supporters, those who have worked in the service of the constituency and the party with utmost dedication and fidelity...Today, I am grateful to PM Narendra Modi and CM Yogi Adityanath that their governments have completed the pending works of 30 years in just 5 years. I congratulate those who win. I will continue to be in the service of the people of Amethi..."

JD(U) leader Nitish Kumar and TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu are now attending the meeting of the NDA leaders.

Kishori Lal Sharma, the Congress candidate who defeated BJP's Smriti Irani from Amethi seat in Uttar Pradesh, said Wednesday he was advised to remain humble by the influential Gandhi family and not show arrogance of being a Member of Parliament (MP). "Jaise humble ho, waise hi humble rehna hai. Koi ghamand nahi karna hai ki aap MP ho gye ho (be humble as you have always been. No need to be arrogant about being a member of parliament)," he said quoting the trio of Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi. He had today come to Delhi to meet the trio and seek Sonia's blessings after his victory.

As per Indian Express reports, Two parties have indicated to the BJP leadership that the position of the Speaker should be alotted to alliance partners. 

The formation of the NDA government and the swearing-in ceremony of Prime Minister Narendra Modi likely to take place on June 8, news agency ANI reported.

With Indian general election results announced, and NDA crossing the majority mark, focus will be on govt formation in the next few days followed by a packed diplomatic agenda. Preparations for the oath-taking ceremony at Rashtrapati Bhavan are already underway, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi set to take office for another term. Global leaders have been quick to extend their congratulations to PM Modi and the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance.

With more than 640 million votes counted, India has wrapped up its 2024 general elections making the end of the world’s largest democratic exercise which took place between April 19 to June 1. 

The vote counting began on June 4, and the Election Commission of India (ECI) declared results for all 543 parliamentary constituencies on Wednesday (Jun 5) morning.

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejashwi Yadav were seen travelling in the same flight from Patna to Delhi as leaders of NDA and the opposition INDIA bloc are expected to hold meetings in the Indian capital, later today. 

TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu says, "Today, I am heading to Delhi. After the completion of the election, this is my first press meet before going to Delhi. I am very glad for the support of the voters. Ups and downs are common in politics. Many political leaders and parties have been ousted in history. This is a historic election. Even voters from abroad have returned to their hometowns to exercise their votes."

A day after the Lok Sabha 2024 results, leaders of both NDA and INDIA alliances are flying to Delhi to hold discussions on the way forward.

Nitish Kumar and Tejaswi Yadav, his former ally, will be on the same plane when they travel to Delhi to attend separate meetings.

Tamil Nadu CM and DMK chief M.K. Stalin arrived in the national capital ahead of the INDIA bloc meeting. His party clinched 22 seats in the Lok Sabha Elections 2024.

Congress' winning candidate from the Churu Lok Sabha constituency Rahul Kaswan said, "I want to thank the people of Churu for this win. I want to assure them that we will keep working like we did for the past 10 years...reason why BJP suffered this loss in this area is because of 'Kaka' (Rajendra Rathore)..."

Congress candidate Sanjana Jatav defeated BJP's Ramswaroop Koli by more than 51,000 votes in the Bharatpur constituency. "I thank the party leadership for giving me the opportunity and the people of Bharatpur for their immense support," she said.
 

MP Hema Malini received her winning certificate after winning from Mathura Lok Sabha constituency. She was seen celebrating her win with party workers.
 

BJP candidate from Nagpur Lok Sabha seat and Union Minister Nitin Gadkari said, "The public of Nagpur has chosen me for the third time, I would to thank them for their support...I would also like to thank my party workers and members for their support." 

BJP is all set to hold a cabinet meeting at 11:30 am. Meanwhile, NDA will hold a meeting in New Delhi at 4 pm. INDIA bloc will meet at Mallikarjun Kharge's residence in the capital at 6 pm.
