Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge at INDIA parties meeting said the "mandate is decisively against Mr. Modi, against him and the substance and style of his politics. It is a huge political loss for him personally apart from being a clear moral defeat as well."

He also welcomed all INDIA alliance partners and said, "We fought well, fought unitedly, fought resolutely."

However, Kharge slammed Modi saying that the PM is "determined to subvert the will of the people."

"The INDIA Alliance welcomes all parties which shares its fundamental commitment to the values enshrined in the Preamble to our Constitution and to its many provisions for economic, social and political justice," he added in his opening remarks at the meeting.

After meeting with newly elected party MLAs, Outgoing CM and BJD chief Naveen Patnaik said, " We have worked hard to reduce poverty from 70 per cent to 10 per cent. Our efforts in agriculture, irrigation and women empowerment have led to this achievement ." BJP won the elections by securing 78 seats out of 147 seats in the assembly elections.

Kishori Lal Sharma, the Congress candidate who defeated BJP's Smriti Irani from Amethi seat in Uttar Pradesh, said Wednesday he was advised to remain humble by the influential Gandhi family and not show arrogance of being a Member of Parliament (MP). "Jaise humble ho, waise hi humble rehna hai. Koi ghamand nahi karna hai ki aap MP ho gye ho (be humble as you have always been. No need to be arrogant about being a member of parliament)," he said quoting the trio of Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi. He had today come to Delhi to meet the trio and seek Sonia's blessings after his victory.

With more than 640 million votes counted, India has wrapped up its 2024 general elections making the end of the world’s largest democratic exercise which took place between April 19 to June 1. 

The vote counting began on June 4, and the Election Commission of India (ECI) declared results for all 543 parliamentary constituencies on Wednesday (Jun 5) morning.
