People were looted in the name of Article 370: MP Jugal Kishore Sharma from Jammu and Kashmir said during the debate on the bill.

"The Indian constitution does not have only Article 370. It also has Article 371 A to I. They provide special rights to Nagaland, Assam, Manipur, Andhra, Sikkim etc," Manish Tewari said.

"Today when you're scrapping Article 370, what message are you sending to these states?, Manish Tewari, Congress leader in Lok Sabha, said.

On Tuesday, Union Home Minister Amit Shah moved the resolution to revoke Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir in Lok Sabha.

The Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation Bill, 2019 was passed in the Upper House of Parliament of Monday evening with a total of 125 votes in favour with 61 members voting against it.

After India's home minister Amit Shah proposed the scrapping of Article 370 in the Rajya Sabha on Monday which was eventually scrapped.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday addressed Rajya Sabha and replied to the debate in the Upper House on the revocation of Article 370 and Article 35A. Shah opened his address by stating that he has brought a "historic proposal" to the table.

"I am convinced this move will result in the end of violence in Jammu and Kashmir," Shah said.

Soon after the central government scrapped Article 370 of the Constitution, veteran BJP leader LK Advani said that it's a "bold step towards strengthening national integration."

"I am happy with the Government`s decision to revoke Article 370 and I believe that it is a bold step towards strengthening national integration," Advani said in a statement.

Centre asks states and union territories to ensure safety and security of residents, students of Jammu and Kashmir

The Central government on Monday asked state governments and Union Territories (UTs) to ensure the safety and security of residents and students of Jammu and Kashmir.

Ministry of Home Affairs issued an order to Chief Secretaries & Director Generals of Police (DGPs) of all states and UTs, asking them to put security forces and law enforcement agencies on maximum alert.

The Home Ministry ordered Chief Secretaries and Director Generals of Police (DGPs) of all state/UTs and Commissioner of Police of Delhi that immediate instruction may be issued to security forces and law enforcement agencies in all states to put them on maximum alert. "It is requested to take special care to ensure the safety and security of residents of Jammu and Kashmir, especially the students in various parts of the country," read the order.

People had been dreaming of this day: Uddhav Thackeray on Article 370

Congratulating Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Amit Shah on the decision to scrap Article 370 of the Constitution, Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray called it a historic day and said that people had been dreaming of this day for long. "Today we are fully independent and the few chains that were remaining have been broken. To dissenters, keep your politics aside and think of the sovereignty of our country," said Thackeray.

Close to 8,000 paramilitary troops have been airlifted and moved in from Uttar Pradesh, Odisha, Assam and other parts of the country to the Kashmir Valley, ANI newswire reported.

The induction of troops is still going on, the ANI report added.

"In real sense today, Jammu & Kashmir has become a part of India. My party supports this resolution. We are a regional party but for us nation is first," Prasanna Acharya, BJD MP in Rajya Sabha said. 

The Indian Army and the Indian Air Force(IAF) have been put on high alert, following revoking of Article 370 which gave special status to Jammu and Kashmir.

Meanwhile, A. Navaneethakrishnan, AIADMK MP in Rajya Sabha said: "Amma is well known for upholding sovereignty and integrity. So AIADMK party supports the two resolutions, Reorganisation Bill & the Reservation Bill."

Article 370 hatane mein ek second ki bhi deri nahi karni chahiye(There should not be a delay of even one second to remove Article 370), Home minister Amit Shah said in the Rajya Sabha on Monday.

PM Modi is likey to speak to the nation on the J&K situation on August 7 after the government decided to change the constitutional status of Jammu and Kashmir.

According to Rajya Sabha chairman Venkaiah Naidu, PDP's Mir Fayaz and Nazir Ahmed Laway were asked to go out of the Rajya Sabha after they attempted to tear the constitution, ANI reported.

Article 370 revoked in J&K

Jammu and Kashmir to be a union territory with legislature and Ladakh to be union territory without legislature, Amit Shah said in Rajya Sabha.

The government moved a resolution in India's upper house in Rajya Sabha today to revoke Article 370.

J&K will be reorganised geographically, India's home minister said.

I am ready to answer all questions on J&K, Amit Shah said.

"The entire Valley is under curfew, political leaders including three former chief ministers are under house arrest. There is a war-like situation in the state, so this should be discussed on priority," Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad said in Rajya Sabha.

As India's Home minister Amit Shah began speaking on the Jammu and Kashmir situation, the Opposition raised objections interrupting him.

Prime Minister Modi arrived in Parliament today after charing a meeting on Cabinet Committee on Security(CCS) on the Jammu and Kashmir situation.

The CCS meeting at PM Modi's residence was attended by Home minister Amit Shah and finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman.

India's Home minister Amit Shah will be addressing the Parliament on the Jammu and Kashmir situation today.

Amit Shah will be briefing the Rajya Sabha at 11am and Lok Sabha at 12 noon.

Mobile internet services have been suspended in Jammu and Kashmir(J&K) and all educational institutes have been shut in Srinagar until further orders with the government imposing section 144 in the state.

According to section 144, "any pre-planned congregation/sudden unforeseen congregation of ritualistic nature shall be conducted with the prior approval of the District Magistrate." The order means gathering of more than four people has been barred in the state.
